📚 Hellhound On His Trail: The Stalking of Martin Luther King, Jr. and the International Hunt for His Assassin
WHO: Hampton Sides
WHERE: Amazon / Audible
WHY:
I listened to this recently and was captivated by the cross-cutting effect focusing on both MLK Jr. and James Earl Ray’s paths to that fateful day in Memphis. It reads more like historical fiction despite being rooted in real accounts and verified sources and was a big ole YES CHEF for me.

🐔 Honey Pepper Pimento Chicken Sandwich
WHO: Chick-fil-A
WHERE: Chick-fil-A
WHY:
This had not been on my radar, but Ashley forced me into trying it AND LET ME TELL YOU ONE THING RIGHT NOW. This sandwich may save us all.
As a good human, person, and friend, I immediately told Jason Waterfalls about it. Below is our text thread about it…

📺 The Righteous Gemstones
WHO: Danny McBride, Jody Hill
WHERE: HBO
WHY: NOW, your mileage may vary on a show like this because it’s classic Danny McBride: adult buffoonery with an active influence of improv.
I actually got behind on this most recent, final season partially out of busyness, but also just because of some fatigue with shows that emphasize the worst and most dire parts of foundational institutions.
HOWEVER, I finished it while traveling back from the live show and found it to be weirdly heartwarming as they buttoned up the story of the Gemstones.

✍️ MINI-ESSAY: ✍️

We went to Austin last week for our first live show this year.
I saw very little of the city for want of performance cohesion in our show content.
(big BIG shouts to Laura Beth Davidson for the above picture and more here)
If you ever think that you’re prepared and efficient and ordered, I encourage you to plan a live show because it unfailingly serves as a reminder of two things:
#1 How solemnly and quixotically oblivious you are about the compression of logistics for most aspects of life but especially a live event and DOUBLE ESPECIALLY with how we do live show content.
Below is a peek at the end of our slide deck and the totality of our show doc…
