Hihi. I’m coming to you from a new place of residence, which is exciting. It also means that there’s a fair amount of soreness and disorder on the homefront.

Below, I include some pictures of the new place as well as some lessons learned from what was our fourth move in six years.

BUT FIRST…

🎉 The Recommendations 🎉

📚 Rednecks by Taylor Brown

WHERE: Amazon / Audible

WHY:

I’ve been waiting for this one for a few months now as I did a deep-dive a few years ago on where the term “redneck” comes from. I think I was prompted to do this as a result of a line of dialogue from Justified, but don’t quote me on that.

Anyway, this book is a retelling of the Battle of Blair Mountain and the West Virginia mine wars all of which involved the largest labor uprising in American history as a coalition of multi-ethnic coal miners fought back against unscrupulous coal mining companies, state militias, and the US government.

📺 Ninja Dualbrew Coffee Maker

WHERE: Amazon / Walmart

WHY:

I love coffee, but I don’t want to have to commit to ONLY K-cups or ONLY brewed pots of coffee. This allows me to have my (coffee) cake and eat it too.

Also, they have tons of settings and options if you like fancier coffee and a built-in frother. This means nothing to me, but Ashley LOVES to froth her coffee.

📚 All Fours by Miranda July

WHERE: Amazon / Audible

WHY:

I’d seen a ton of buzz about this one, and even though I’m aware of Miranda July, I’ve never really interacted with her work.

This book is supremely not written for a person like me, but I am, and have always been, very literarily promiscuous in terms of styles and topicalities, so that didn’t bother me but I can see how this may not be for everyone.

The best way I can explain it is a menopausal Eat, Pray, Love but without any of the glitz or glamour and more through the lens of an A24 movie. Unrelated, Miranda July herself reads the audiobook and has an *excellent* reading voice.

Below, I’ve included a relevant 4-star and 2-star review that I think might be more instructive on whether or not this is something you might like. (I find 4 and 2-star reviews to be more reliable and honest as they aren’t the result of someone’s subjectivity, either through adulation or rage.)
